How to use

  1. Drop a DWG or DXF in — the tool detects its current format version and shows a preview. Opening a DWG loads the self-hosted CAD engine (~10 MB) once.
  2. Pick the version to save as: R12 is the classic interchange format that even very old CAD software opens; 2000–2018 match the modern AutoCAD DXF generations.
  3. Press Resave & download. You get a clean DXF in the chosen version — the standard exchange format every CAD application (AutoCAD, LibreCAD, BricsCAD, DraftSight…) can open and re-save from.

FAQ

Why would I change a drawing’s version?

Older CAD software can’t open newer files — a 2018-format drawing won’t open in a tool that stops at 2000 or R12. Resaving down to R12 or 2000 makes the drawing readable almost anywhere; resaving up modernises an ancient file so current tools stop complaining.

Does it write DWG too?

No — the output is always DXF, and that’s deliberate. DWG is a closed, proprietary format that no open-source engine can reliably write; DXF is AutoCAD’s own exchange format that every CAD app reads and writes. Open the DXF in your CAD software and “Save as DWG” there if you need one.

Is anything lost in the resave?

The 2D drawing content — lines, polylines, circles, arcs, ellipses, text, blocks, layers and colours — carries over. Saving to R12 approximates ellipses and splines as fine polylines (R12 predates those entities). Paper-space layouts, 3D solids and custom object data aren’t carried.
