  3. Read the decoded text, copy it, and if it’s a web link you can open it straight away.

FAQ

Why does this read an image instead of using my camera?

For your privacy and safety, Softofu pages don’t request camera access at all, so there’s no live scanner here. Instead you read a QR code from a picture of it — snap a photo with any camera app, or take a screenshot of a code shown on a screen, then drop that image in. The decoding still happens entirely on your device.

What can a QR code contain?

Most hold a web link, but a QR code can also carry plain text, an email address, a phone number, Wi-Fi network details, contact cards (vCard/MeCard) and more. This reader shows you the exact decoded text. For safety it only offers a clickable “Open link” button when the content is a normal http, https, mailto or tel link — anything unusual is shown as text only, so you can read it before acting on it.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is decoded right in your browser using a small self-hosted library — nothing is ever uploaded to a server, and it works offline. When you’re done, just close the tab.
