FAQ
Does this work for VAT and GST too?
Yes. VAT, GST and sales tax are all a percentage added to a price, so the maths is the same — just enter your local rate. "Add tax" gives you the gross price, and "Remove tax" works backwards from a tax-inclusive total to the net amount, which is the reverse-VAT calculation people often need for receipts.
How do you take tax out of a total?
You divide, not subtract. For a 10% rate the net amount is the total ÷ 1.10, and the tax is whatever is left. Subtracting 10% of the total would be wrong because that 10% is measured against the total, not the original price. This tool does the division for you.
Is anything I type sent anywhere?
