Fraction Calculator
Add, subtract, multiply or divide two fractions and get the exact reduced answer, decimal and mixed number. Free and runs in your browser.
Report a problemFractions are reduced to lowest terms using the greatest common divisor, and the sign is kept on the top number. Enter whole numbers only.
How to use
- Type the top (numerator) and bottom (denominator) of your first fraction.
- Pick an operation — add, subtract, multiply or divide — and type the second fraction.
- Read the answer: it updates live as a fully reduced fraction, with the decimal value and a mixed number when the result is improper.
FAQ
How does it add and subtract fractions?
To add or subtract, the calculator cross-multiplies: it puts both fractions over the same bottom number (the two denominators multiplied together), adds or subtracts the new tops, then reduces the answer to its lowest terms. Multiplying is simpler — it multiplies the tops together and the bottoms together. Dividing flips the second fraction and multiplies. Every answer is reduced using the greatest common divisor so you always get the tidiest form.
Is anything I type uploaded?
No — it runs in your browser. The numbers you enter are used for plain arithmetic on your own device and are never sent anywhere or stored. The calculator works offline and keeps your work private.
What is the decimal and mixed number under the answer?
The decimal is the same value written as a decimal, rounded to four places and trimmed of trailing zeros, which is handy for quick checks. The mixed number appears when the answer is improper (the top is bigger than the bottom) — for example 7/3 is shown as 2 1/3 so it is easier to read at a glance.
