FAQ
Where do the exchange rates come from?
From the European Central Bank’s daily reference rates, fetched through the free Frankfurter service. The date the rates were published is always shown beneath the result so you know how fresh they are.
Is my amount sent to a server?
No. This tool downloads a small table of rates, then multiplies your amount by the right rate entirely in your browser. The number you type is never uploaded anywhere.
Does it work offline?
Yes, with a caveat. Rates are cached for about 12 hours, and a dated snapshot is built into the tool, so if you’re offline or the rate service is unreachable it still converts using those offline rates and tells you it’s doing so.
Are these rates good for trading or payments?
They’re official reference rates, ideal for estimates, budgeting and travel planning. Banks and card networks add their own margins, so the amount you actually pay or receive will differ a little.
